Stephen Courtright is the John E. Pearson Professor of Business Administration at Mays Business School, where he is an associate professor in the Department of Management and a Presidential Impact Fellow. He earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Iowa and a B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University-Idaho.

Dr. Courtright’s research examines leadership and team effectiveness in organizations, with a particular emphasis on three key issues: (1) keeping leaders energized in their roles so they can motivate and inspire others; (2) designing and leading self-managing teams; and (3) identifying, developing, and retaining executive talent. His research has appeared or is forthcoming in leading scholarly journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Management. His work has also been featured by The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, Forbes, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, U.S. News and World Report, and other media outlets. He is the recipient of several international research awards and serves on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Journal of Applied Psychology. He also serves as a Representative-at-Large of the Academy of Management’s HR Division.

As an instructor at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, Dr. Courtright has received several teaching awards, including the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Distinguished Teaching Award, Montague-Center for Teaching Excellence Scholar Award, and the Texas A&M Innovation in High-Impact Learning Experiences Award. He has also taught hundreds of executives from Fortune 500 firms, government entities, and other organizations.
