Stephanie Dailey

Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University

Biography

My name is Dr. Stephanie Dailey, and I am an Associate Professor in the department of Communication Studies at Texas State University. As an organizational communication scholar, my time is divided between research, teaching, and service.

Throughout my academic career, I have been interested in how people learn about and feel part of organizational cultures. My research, therefore, seeks to advance research at the intersection of organizational socialization and organizational identification scholarship. Specifically, my theory-driven program of work spans three contexts: organizational membership, wellness, and social media. Recently, I have been particularly interested in social media as a narrative tool to understand and cultivate organizational cultures.

My work is published in journals like Communication Monographs, the Academy of Management Review, Management Communication Quarterly, the Journal of Communication, Communication Teacher, Health Communication, and handbooks such as the third edition of the Sage Handbook of Organizational Communication and Wiley’s International Encyclopedia of Organizational Communication. My dissertation research was funded by the National Science Foundation.

In addition to my research interests, I have a passion for teaching. I have taught courses in organizational communication, research methods, interviewing, professional communication, introduction to communication, interpersonal communication, and presentational speaking. My online undergraduate course, Empirical Research Methods, won Texas State University’s 2015 Award for Excellence in Online Teaching. I have also received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2018–Texas State University’s highest teaching honor. In the classroom, I strive to make course material relevant and valuable to students beyond the college campus.

I also enjoy being active in the academic community. I am on the editorial board of Management Communication Quarterly, Southern Communication Journal and Communication Teacher. I have served in the Training & Development and Organizational Communication divisions of the National Communication Association and International Communication Association, respectively.

When I am not writing or teaching, I love spending time with my amazing husband, Patrick, our sons, Dean and Cade. I enjoy cooking, listening to live music around Austin, and staying active!
