The Wharton School
Professor Stephanie J. Creary is an organizational scholar with expertise in identity, diversity, inclusion, and workplace relationships. She studies how people manage multiple identities, boundaries, and inclusion in organizations while navigating any tensions associated with doing so. She places particular emphasis on the interplay between organizational systems and practices and the experiences of a variety of organizational stakeholders, including managers and leaders, employees, customers and clients, and board directors. She has studied related dynamics in a variety of organizations, including global firms, corporate board rooms, hospitals, yoga communities, and the US Army. Professor Creary has published her research in leading academic journals, including the Academy of Management Review and Organization Science. Insights from her research have also appeared in top popular press outlets, including Harvard Business Review, strategy+business, the New York Times, Bloomberg, NPR, and Marketplace. Currently, she is on the editorial boards of three leading academic journals: Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
Prior to joining the Wharton faculty, Professor Creary was on the faculty of Cornell University. Prior to completing her PhD degree, she was a research associate at Harvard Business School and The Conference Board in NYC researching corporate diversity and inclusion practices. She also has extensive work experience in the health care industry. Professor Creary has earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; an MBA degree from Simmons School of Management; and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Boston College Carroll School of Management.
