Stefano Caselli

Stefano Caselli is a Full Professor of Banking and Finance at the Department of Finance at Università Bocconi where he is alsoDean of International Affairs. He is Algebris Chair in Long-Term Investment and Absolute Return. For the international activity of Bocconi, he covers several roles within the most relevant academic networks: he is a member of the Steering Committee of CIVICA, the University of Social Sciences (www.civica.eu); he is a member of the management board of CEMS, the Global Alliance in Management Education (www.cems.org); he is Chair for the EMEA Region of PIM, Partnership in International Managemnent (www.pimnetwork.org); he is Executive Secretary of the External Advisory Board of the School of Transnational Governance at EUI, the European University Institute in Firenze.

At SDA Bocconi and Bocconi, he has covered several roles. He was the Academic Director of the SDA Bocconi Asia Center from 2012 to 2015. He was the Director of the Executive Education Custom Program for Banks and Financial Institutions (2006-2012), Academic Director of MSc in Finance (2010-2012), Academic Director of CEMS-MIM (2005-2012) and Director of the Executive Master in Corporate Finance & Banking (2005-2010). Hehas conducted numerous research, education and consulting projects both with leading financial institutions at European level and with corporations for evaluation and corporate governance issues.

His research activities focus on the relationship between banking and industrial systems, addressing issues both of banking credit risk management and of corporate finance and capital structure. His current research activities address three main questions: the impact of private equity and venture capital within investment banking activities on companies’ growth and development; the relationship between corporate governance, regulatory issues and performance of financial institutions; the role of taxation incentives and mechanisms on capital structure.

He is the author of numerous books and articles on his topics of interest. His works have been published in the Journal of Financial Intermediation, the Journal of Banking and Finance, European Financial Management, the Journal of Financial Services Research, the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance and Economia & Management, among others. He is a member of the board of SDA Bocconi and he has long-standing experience as an independent director on several boards of corporations and financial institutions as well as an advisor for investment committees. He acts as a columnist and opinion maker for “L’Economia del Corriere della Sera”, as well as radio and television programs. He is a research fellow of BAFFI-CAREFIN (the research center for financial innovation at Università Bocconi) where he is the director of the "Equita Lab" on financial markets. He has won the “Bocconi Teaching Award” and the “Bocconi Research Award” several times. He is an expert guest speaker at international conferences.

Stefano earned an MSc in Business Administration from the Università degli Studi di Genova and a Ph.D. in Financial Markets and Institutions from the Università degli Studi di Siena. He is married with two children.
