Simon Stevenson is the Robert M. Stanton Endowed Chair of Real Estate & Economic Development and Director of the Harvey Lindsay School of Real Estate and E.V. Williams Center for Real Estate in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Washington, University of Reading, City University of London and University College Dublin, as well as visiting appointments at the University of Adelaide, EDHEC Business School and the University of Auckland.

Originally from the North of England, Simon undertook his undergraduate degree in real estate at Liverpool John Moores University. He then switched track into finance, pursuing his Masters at the University of Stirling and his PhD at University College Dublin. These twin interests of finance and real estate have continued throughout his career, his primary research interests being in the fields of real estate capital markets & portfolio management; housing economics and international financial markets. He has published over 80 papers in journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance & Economics, Journal of International Money & Finance, Journal of Housing Economics, Regional Studies, Housing Studies, European Journal of Finance, Urban Studies, International Review of Financial Analysis and the Journal of Real Estate Research.

Simon is a past-president of both the American Real Estate Society and the International Real Estate Society. He was Chair of ARES' 2019 Annual Meeting in Arizona and of the European Real Estate Society Annual Conference in 2005 (Dublin) and 2007 (London). From 2014 to 2021 he was co-editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management (JREPM), the industry facing applied investment journal of the American Real Estate Society. In addition to various best paper awards, Simon received the 2006 International Real Estate Society Achievement Award and the 2018 Nick Tyrrell Research Prize for innovative applied research in real estate investment.
