Biography
I am a Research Associate at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST) and Sociology.
My work focuses on issues of immigrant integration and ethnic diversity, as well as political, civic and organisational engagement of migrant and ethnic communities primarily in the UK.
I am currently a co-investigator on the ''Pathways to socio-economic and civic-political inclusion of ethnic minorities in Britain and Canada: The influence of family capital'' project (ESRC Secondary Data Analysis Initiative Phase 3, 2016-2017).
During my time at CMIST, I worked with Dr Laurence Lessard-Phillips (PI) on the ''Unity out of diversity? Perspectives on the adaptations of immigrants in Britain'' project (ESRC Future Research Leaders, 2013-2016), which explores definitions of immigrant integration in the academic, policy and public spheres. As part of the Knowing-how project (Faculty of Humanities Strategic Investment Fund, 2015-2016), I contributed, in collaboration with academic and Third Sector partners, to the development and delivery of a pilot training programme on social research methods specifically dedicated to local community organisations in Greater Manchester.
I completed my PhD in Social Change at the University of Manchester in 2014 with a thesis entitled Residential Concentration, Ethnic Social Networks and Political Participation: A Mixed Methods Study of Black Africans in Britain. I also hold a Bachelor degree in International Studies and a Masters degree in European Studies from the University of Turin (Italy), and an MSc in Social Change from the University of Manchester.
