Dr. Sigmund J. Kharasch is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department. Dr. Kharasch graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1985, completed his residency in pediatrics at Boston City Hospital in 1988 and fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Boston City Hospital in 1990.
At Boston City Hospital/Boston Medical Center, Dr. Kharasch, was Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program, and Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department for 11 years. Dr. Kharasch was also Chair of Intern Selection for the Boston Combined Residency Program (BCRP) and was the recipient of the Jerome O. Klein Faculty Teaching Award for the Boston Combined Residency Program.
Dr. Kharasch joined the Massachusetts General Hospital Emergency Department in 2012 and is currently an attending physician in the Pediatric Emergency Department. Dr. Kharasch completed a fellowship in Emergency Medicine Ultrasound at MGH and is the Director of Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound.
Research
Dr. Kharasch's research interests and publications have focused on Point-of-Care Ultrasound, trauma, HIV in the emergency department, pain management, community acquired pneumonia and child abuse.
