Dr. Ong is an accomplished scientist, with experience in multiple advanced fields, including cell and molecular biology, genetics, genomics, diagnostics and drug development. She has conducted independent research in Singapore, US & Canada since 1995, in competitive academic and industry settings. In 2010, Dr. Ong founded the medical technology firm Acumen Research Labs, which is developing and commercializing pioneering Sepsis diagnostic tests.
Since 2004, Dr. Ong has been an adjunct faculty member at the National University of Singapore, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. From working in the academic and biomedical industry for 20 years now, Dr. Ong has an in-depth knowledge and extensive connections applicable to translation of basic research into innovative biomedical products (drugs and diagnostics), as well as technology commercialization (licensing, M&A).
Dr. Ong is also the Chairman of BioSingapore & a council member of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation. She has also set up non-profit programs to promote science education in children from families below the socio-economic norm (Science Explorers' Camp) and biomedical entrepreneurship in youth (Asian Youth Biotechnology Network). She also strongly believes in building high-tech human capital and has been a speaker at multiple career talks for science and technology professionals.
