Biography

Shalene is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Native Studies and Director of the Aboriginal Governance program. She is Cree from her mother (Wuttunee family) and Métis from her father (Jobin family) and is a member of Red Pheasant Cree First Nation (Treaty Six). Shalene has published in the edited collections Reflections on Indigenous Women’s Knowledge (forthcoming) and Indigenous Identity and Resistance (2010), and in the journals American Indian Quarterly (2011), Revue Générale de Droit (2013), Native Studies Review (2016). She also co-authored in Aboriginal Policy Studies (2012). She is currently working on a book manuscript titled Nehiyawak Narratives: Exploring Critical Indigenous Political Economies. Shalene is involved in numerous research projects, including being a co-applicant on the Kule research grant examining “The Role of Academics in Creating Spaces for Change: The Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women in Canada” (2015-2016).
