Leonard N. Stern School of Business

Sarah Labowitz is a policy expert who believes in the power of movements, people, and politics to achieve ambitious change. She’s tackled issues ranging from labor rights in the global supply chain, to racial wealth disparities in disaster recovery, to human rights and national security in the aftermath of the Arab Spring, to voting rights in Texas. As policy & advocacy director for the ACLU of Texas, Sarah leads a diverse team of advocates fighting for Texans’ civil liberties and pushing the state to live up to its democratic ideals.

Prior to joining the ACLU of Texas, Sarah served as the policy and communications director for the City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department, co-founder and co-director of the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights, and as a senior policy advisor in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor at the U.S. Department of State.

Sarah holds a bachelor's degree in history from Grinnell College and a master's degree in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She is a fellow of the Truman National Security Project and a member of the board of directors of the Houston Committee on Foreign Relations.
