Simon Business School

Sandra “San” Cannon is a Research Professor in the Goergen Institute of Data Science at the University of Rochester. Her research focuses on data organization and dissemination, research support processes, data quality metrics and implications, and applications of data science techniques.

She is also the first Associate Vice Provost for Data Governance and Chief Data Officer at the University. She is responsible for the enterprise-wide data and information strategy, governance, control, policy development and effective use. Prior to joining the University, San worked in data management and analytics in the Federal Reserve System for more than 20 years and teaches data science courses in the Helzberg School of Management at Rockhurst University. She is active in the international data community and has presented and published on topics such as sentiment analysis, metadata and classification standards, and data management and dissemination challenges. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of California, Irvine, a Master of Science in economics from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
