Biography

The London School of Economics and Political Science

Roni is a PhD student in Social Research Methods supervised by Dr Ellie Knott, Professor Patrick Sturgis and Professor Jonathan Hopkin.

Before joining the programme, he worked as a research assistant at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and as a lecturer at EAE Business School. Previously he also worked as a research assistant at CIDOB, a think tank focusing on international relations. He holds a BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Pompeu Fabra University (2019) and an MSc in Political Sociology from LSE (2020), for which he was awarded the Department's 2020 Hobhouse Memorial Prize.

Roni’s doctoral research explores contemporary populist politics from the prism of the mass circulation and mobilisation of identities. He is interested in the interrelation between context, identity and political behaviour, and in how grounding populism in such dynamics can serve both to understand its micro-level determinants, and to illuminate shifting macro-structural trends of (post)modern politics. He is currently exploring such issues through a comparative case study of crisis politics in Spain and Portugal, which seeks to innovate theoretically and methodologically how we approach the relation between identity and politics. This research is funded by a Fellowship granted by the La Caixa Foundation (Fellowship code LCF/BQ/EU21/11890039).
