Professor Schroeder has a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, with high distinction, a Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and he has a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota, he was on the faculty of the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He has held positions in the Carlson School of Management as Director of the Ph.D. program and Chair of the Operations and Management Science Department.

Professor Schroeder has published over one hundred articles in major research journals and proceedings. The subject of these articles includes: the impact of quality management practices on performance and competitive advantage, fast new product innovation, and world class manufacturing.

Professor Schroeder has consulted with numerous business firms including: 3M Company, Honeywell, Motorola, Saint Paul School District, and Golden Valley Foods.

Professor Schroeder''s academic honors and awards include being listed in the Outstanding Educators of America, he has been inducted as a Fellow in the Decision Sciences Institute, and is a Fellow in the Production and Operations Society. In 2009, he was recognized as the most cited author in Operations Managment. In 2010, Professor Schroeder was given the Lifetime Research Award at the Carlson School of Management.
