Biography

Roger Chiang is a Professor of Information Systems at Department of Operations, Business Analytics, and Information Systems, Carl H. Lindner College of Business, University of Cincinnati. He received his B.S. degree in management science from National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, M.S. degrees in computer science from Michigan State University and in business administration from University of Rochester, and Ph.D. degree in computers and information systems from University of Rochester.

Before join University of Cincinnati in 1999, he was Associate Professor at Division of Strategy and Information Technology, Deputy Director of the Information Management Research Centre, and Deputy Director of MBA in Management of Information Technology, Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was consultant for Citibank, N.A. Singapore and conducted executive seminar on data warehousing and data mining for Abacus in 1998.

Dr. Chiang’s research interests are in business intelligence and analytics, data and knowledge management, and intelligent systems, particularly in database reverse engineering, database integration, data and text mining, sentiment analysis, document classification and clustering, domain knowledge discovery, semantic information retrieval, and text analytics for market structure analysis.

He has over sixty refereed articles published by conferences and journals including ACM Transactions on Database Systems, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, Communications of the ACM, The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, Data & Knowledge Engineering, Decision Support Systems, Journal of American Society for Information Science and Technology, Journal of Database Administration, Journal of Management Information Systems, Marketing Science, MIS Quarterly, and Very Large Data Base Journal.

He has served as the senior editor of The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, Decision Sciences, and Journal of the Association of Information Systems, and the associate editor of Information & Management, Journal of the Association of Information Systems, Journal of Database Management, International Journal of Intelligent Systems in Accounting, Finance and Management, and MIS Quarterly. He has been the reviewer for more than twenty journals of computer science and information systems. He was the co-chair of 22nd International Conference on Information Systems, Research in Progress Track in 2001, ACM International Workshop on Web Information and Data Management in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and 21st Workshop on Information Systems and Technologies in 2011. He co-edited with Professors Hsinchun Chen and Veda Storey a special issue on Business Intelligence Research for MIS Quarterly, published in December 2012. He was the guest editor of a special issue on Strategic Value of Big Data and Business Analytics for Journal of Management Information Systems, published in June 2018. Currently, he edits a special issue on Data Science for Social Good for Journal of the Association for Information Systems expected to be published in 2022.

In 2014, Roger was awarded Michael L. Dean Excellence in Classroom Education & Learning Undergraduate Teaching by Lindner College of Business.
