Heinz College

Professor Strauss joined the faculty of the School of Urban and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon as a tenured professor in 1979 after 10 years in the Department of Economics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

His public service at the US Treasury Department and the Staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, US Congress was recognized by President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford. He has received a variety of awards: The Exceptional Service Award (Gold Medal) at the US Treasury, the Distinguished Service Award from the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Tax Executives Institute, the Steven D Gold Award from the Association for Public Policy and Management, National Conference of State Legislatures, and National Tax Association, elected Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, and the Albert Nelson Award for Lifetime Achievement.
