Overview
Richard Williams is a senior software engineer working on a variety of projects within the Centre for Health Informatics. The projects include:
- GM PSTRC - a 5 year project to improve patient safety within primary care
- STELAR - a project to pull together data from 5 birth cohorts around the UK to investigate the development of asthma and allergies
- COCPIT - software for performing detailed care pathway analysis for researchers and health professionals
Richard's role is to lead a team of software engineers to deliver the applications required for the above projects.
Biography
Originally from Formby near Liverpool, Richard studied Maths at Cambridge before starting a job as a software engineer at a Business Process Outsourcing company in Manchester. While there he worked on system design, development and testing on numerous web and speech recognition applications for use in call centres. After five years he joined the University to work on the CLAHRC project and was responsible for creating software for performing complex care pathway analysis, before moving to his current role. Richard is married to Clare, lives in Newton-le-Willows and enjoys mountaineering, running and playing the guitar.
