Academic Division: FinanceRichard Herron is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Babson College. Prior to joining Babson in 2015, he earned a Ph.D. in finance at Baruch College and The Graduate Center of The City University of New York (CUNY). He also taught undergraduate finance and economics courses at Baruch College as an Adjunct Professor. Baruch College recognized him for both research and teaching with the 2015 Oscar Lasdon Memorial Award for best doctoral dissertation in finance, the 2014 Helen Mills and Gary Tannenbaum Scholarship, and the 2013 John A. Elliot Award for outstanding teaching by a Ph.D. candidate. Prior to earning his Ph.D. in finance Richard was a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. As a submariner he completed two deployments aboard USS Alexandria (SSN 757) home ported in Groton, CT. These include Alexandria''s Circumnavigation deployment and a Mediterranean-Indian Ocean-Persian Gulf deployment, where he became a Shellback. After serving in Alexandria his shore tour was as a Senior Instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he decided to pursue a career in research and education. Prior to serving in Alexandria Richard earned an S.M. in Nuclear Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he was a Trident Scholar. Richard''s research interests are empirical corporate finance, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, boards of directors, and payout policy.
