Biography
Ray O’Keefe obtained his undergraduate degree in 1987 from Connecticut College in the USA. He then worked for two years with the Nobel Laureate Dr. George Palade at the Yale University School of Medicine. Ray obtained his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology (1994) from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook with his PhD research being carried out in the laboratory of Dr. David Spector at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
Ray was awarded a Hitchings-Elion Postdoctoral Fellowship from The Burroughs Wellcome Fund to pursue postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Andrew Newman at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. In 1997, Ray was appointed as a Research Fellow at The University of Manchester and in 2001 he was appointed to a Lectureship. Ray now holds a Senior Lecturer position.
Research in the O''Keefe laboratory is funded with grants from the BBSRC and The Wellcome Trust.
