Biography
Randy Priem, Ph.D. is a finance professor at United Business Institutes in Brussels, which is a leading business school being affiliated with Middlesex University. He currently teaches corporate finance, asset pricing, international financing, financial derivatives and FinTech to bachelor students as well as MBA students. He is also a member of the Faculty Learning Committee.
In addition to teaching, Randy conducts research on financial market infrastructures, private equity and blockchain. He published in several international journals such as the Journal of Financial Regulation and Compliance, the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Financial Innovation, European Business Law Review, and European Management Review. He presented his work at various international conferences in e.g. Chicago, Toronto, Atlanta, Brussels, Paris, London, Istanbul, Vallendar, Porto, Nottingham, and Houston. He has acted numerous times as a anonymous reviewer for journals like Corporate Governance, An international review, the World Journal of Economics and Finance, and the Journal of Financial Regulation Regulation.
Randy holds a Ph.D in business economics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and worked as a visiting researcher at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto (Canada).
Economist
Besides working as an academic, he is a policy officer at the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA). In this respect, he supervises Belgian central securities depositories and institutions assimilated to settlement institutions (including custodian banks). He represents the FSMA at six European EMIR colleges of regulators for CCPs and at the T2S cooperative oversight college. Furthermore, he is a member of the Post-trading Standing Committee (PTSC) and the CCP policy committee at the European market regulator (ESMA). Since he started at the FSMA, he has been acting on several occassions as a national expert for het European Council in the development of new financial legislation (i.e. CSDR, BMR, EMIR, etc.).
In addition, Randy supervises Belgian critical, significant, and non-significant benchmark administrators and is a member of the ESMA benchmark network of experts. He also represent the FSMA at the EU RFR Working group at the ECB's premises in Frankfurt.
Finally, he is a member of the data analytics expertise group.
Board member
Randy Priem is the financial director (executive board member) of Amrell International Academy in Kenia. In this respect, he wanst to contribute to society and high-quality education. Besides, he is also the chairman of a the advisory board of a local primary school.
