Research interests

Director International Centre for Higher Education Management

I have held a range of faculty and management positions in the UK and South Africa including in an innovative institution which aimed to transform higher education in apartheid South Africa. I am a past Honorary Secretary of the Society for Research in Higher Education. Multi-national research projects have included transnational higher education, the academic profession and higher education and equity. I have keynoted conferences in many countries including Mexico, Finland, Ireland, Denmark, England, Trinidad and South Africa. Other contributions have included executive development programmes for university leaders. I am on the editorial Boards of the British Journal of Sociology of Education, Philosophy and Theory in Higher Education and the International Journal of Sociology of Education. _I sit  on the Research and Development Committee of the European Foundation for Management Development. I co-edit  the book series  _Global Higher Education (Palgrave/Macmillan) and African Higher Education Dynamics (African Minds).
