Biography

I graduated from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India with Bachelor's and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering. I obtained MSc (Eng) and Ph D degrees from Queen University, Kingston , Ontario, Canada. I have primarily served as an academic for over forty years in different institutions including Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore where I served for more than 20 years. Presently I am with Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) , a Deemed to be University near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India as Emeritus Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I have also served as Principal of Hindustan College of Engineering and Academic Dean of HITS. I have also served in the early period of my career in the area of planning in Electronics Commission, Government of India.

My research interests are wide including control systems, discrete event systems, game theory , image processing, computer arithmetic and quantitative linguistics I have over 170 papers in international and national journals and refereed conferences. I have carried out several research project while in NTU, Singapore, including a project of SGD 1.6 million on robotic vision based welding. I have also been active in the IEEE professional society serving as chapter chair in IEEE Control system and Education societies and Nanotechnology council as well as Chair of IEEE Conference on Intelligent Control and Editor of International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Symposium on Adaptive Tuning in Singapore. I am a Life Senior Member of IEEE.
