For the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre
- Advise on the design, conduct and analysis of clinical and preclinical PET research studies in oncology, neurology and psychiatry.
- Develop novel acquisition and analysis techniques to help establish the WMIC as a centre of excellence in PET methodology.
- Contribute with others in the developments in instrumentation.
- Transfer conventional and new modelling techniques into implementation, working closely with information systems and technology personnel to ensure that such software adheres to appropriate standards of quality assurance.
- Ensure with others that data analysis conducted within the WMIC is performed to an appropriate standard by conforming to internal policies and external regulations.
- Continually learn and educate oneself in biological and medical research via interactions with colleagues and literature reading.
- Educate, advise and supervise clinical fellows and data analysts in the conduct of image analysis.
- Collaborate in projects outside the main areas of image analysis such as physics, image reconstruction, statistics and the analysis of non-PET imaging modalities.
- Present the scientific work of the institute at national and international meetings and conferences.
- Publish in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Establish and maintain collaborations with partners in academia and in industry.
- Contribute to the production of grant applications, centre reports and funding body reviews as appropriate.
- Supervise or co-supervise students undertaking research degrees.
Biography
- September 1994 – July 1999. Work on the development of a novel positron emission tomography (PET) technique to monitor the radiation therapy with heavy charged particles at the Radiation Physics Department of the Institute of Nuclear and Hadron Physics at the Forschungszentrum Rossendorf (now Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf).
- August 1999 – February 2001. Work at post-doctoral level at the Institute of Bioinorganic and Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry of the Forschungszentrum Rossendorf (now Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf).
- March 2001 – February 2002. Research project “Kinetic analysis and modelling of new tracers for the investigation into the serotonergic system by means of positron emission tomography (PET)”, supported by a Research Grant of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. Host institutes: Medical Research Council Clinical Sciences Centre and Imaging Research Solutions Ltd. (IRSL) London Hammersmith.
- March 2002 - March 2006. Senior Mathematical Modeller in the PET Biology and Methodology Research and Development group of IRSL (now: Hammersmith Imanet Ltd. – part of General Electric Health Care).
- April 2006 - December 2007. Senior PET Methodologist at the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre of the University of Manchester.
- since January 2008. Senior Lecturer in the Research School of Cancer and Enabling Sciences (formerly Cancer and Imaging Sciences) of the University of Manchester.
