Nanyang Technological University Centre for Professional and Continuing Education

Dr Rachel Goh is a Teaching Fellow at the Learning Sciences and Assessment Academic Group. A recipient of the MOE Postgraduate Scholarship, Rachel was conferred the degree of Doctor in Education in 2017. For her doctoral research on teacher learning through lesson study, she received The Tan Poey Quee Doctor in Education Gold Medal for Best Overall Student and Book Prize Award for Best Dissertation as well as the Dean’s Commendation for Research. She also holds a MEd in English Language (EL) from NTU, NIE.

Rachel trained as a secondary teacher and taught Principles of Accounting and Management of Business at junior colleges before commerce subjects were phased-out. Redeployed to the primary school, she has taught EL, Mathematics, and Science at the upper and lower primary levels. In her role as a Senior Teacher/ EL, she was conferred an Associate of the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST) in recognition of her significant contribution toward the professional development of Singapore teachers.

Prior to joining NIE, she served as a Senior Academy Officer at the English Language Institute of Singapore (ELIS) where she taught EL professional learning programmes to in-service teachers and consulted for schools.

Her research interests include assessment for learning, teacher learning, and lesson study. She is currently a Co-Principal Investigator of a project which examines secondary teachers' and students’ experiences of assessment feedback in EL writing. She is also a Collaborator in another study on School as a Learning Community which examines the building of a culture of collaboration and listening pedagogy in classrooms in a primary school.
