Pierre Galbert

Pierre de Galbert is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Brown University in the education department. His research focuses on language of instruction policies in low- and middle-income countries, and the association between language policies and learning in the early years of formal school. He is particularly interested in the multi-dimensional set of factors that influence both the policy decisions and their implementation. He is also interested in quantitative research methods, and educational measurement, specifically focusing on literacy acquisition in non-dominant languages.

In addition to research, Pierre is deeply committed to teaching. A former high school math teacher, Pierre has taught research methods and education policy courses at the undergraduate and graduate level at Brown University, Wellesley College, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Pierre received his research doctorate in 2019 in the Education Policy, Leadership and Instructional Practice program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). He was a 2018-19 Graduate Student Affiliate of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, which granted him a Dissertation Writing Grant. In 2016-2017, he was a New York University Additional Insight Fellow. Funding for his research has also been supported by a Presidential Scholarship from Harvard University (2013-2018); the HGSE Dean Summer Fellowship (2015, 2016 & 2018); and the Comparative International Education Society’s New Scholar Merit Grant (2018).
