Petya Platikanova is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at ESADE Business School. She holds MSc in Political Science (Sofia University, Bulgaria), MSc in Economics and Management (University Pompeu Fabra, Spain) and PhD in Economics and Management (Specialization: Financial Accounting; University Pompeu Fabra, Spain). In the period 1998-2003, Petya was a project manager and leading researcher in numerous projects, financed by USAID, Marshall Fund, Open Society Foundation, Freedom House, National Endowment for Democracy, among others. She was also involved in several legislative reforms, including on the Law on Competition and the Law on Public Procurement. Additionally, she consulted several major banks and multinational companies on their entry in Bulgaria. Petya's research interest is at the intersection of corporate finance and financial accounting. Her research has been published in the Financial Analysts Journal (CFA Publication). Her latest work examines the determinants and implications of cash holdings. For her last research on this topic, she has been awarded with the Best Paper on Stock Markets and Pricing (BMEX award) on the Finance Forum (2010). Petya serves as a referee for the Financial Analysts Journal, The Financial Review, Journal of Banking and Finance, European Accounting Review and Managerial Finance. She gives classes on Financial statement analysis (MBA, MSc in Finance, Executive education).
