Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine Practice at The University of Hong Kong

Biography

Dr. Patrick Leung is an academic emergency physician working in a 24-hour metropolitan Emergency Department of Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. With an annual attendance approximating 130,000, it is a major acute regional hospital, tertiary referral centre, Level 1 trauma centre, as well as the teaching hospital of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong. Currently it is an accredited training centre of the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Leung graduated from The University of Hong Kong with MB.,BS. in 2008 and finished his post-internship specialty training in emergency medicine in 2016. After obtaining the specialist status in emergency medicine, he continued to develop academically as Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor of the Emergency Medicine Unit, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. In view of outstanding merits of his work, he was awarded the title of Distinguished Young Fellow 2017 by the Hong Kong Academy Medicine with nomination by the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine. He became a full time university staff starting from March 2020.

Currently he is a faculty member of the in-house simulation training team and the clinical toxicology work group. He is also part of the Editorial Board of the Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine (SAGE Publications Ltd) as Editor and Reviewer. It is an official publication of the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine and The Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine and Surgery as a peer-reviewed, open access journal.

Educational services are provided to rotating EM trainees, medical students, and the general public as collaborative effort among the Emergency Medicine Unit of The University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine, and Queen Mary Hospital. Apart from academic outputs, he also authored a chapter about ventilatory support in the book "生命邊緣的守護者—急症醫護最前線" which was an official publication by the Hong Kong Society of Emergency Medicine and Surgery. It became the best seller in the Commercial Press (Hong Kong) Ltd in 2015.
