Omar A. El Sawy is the Kenneth King Stonier Chair in Business Administration & Professor of Information Systems in the Data Sciences and Operations Department at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California. His current interests are in digital business strategy in messy and dynamic environments, digital platform ecosystems and digital business models, and orchestrating AI applications in real-time business platform contexts.

He holds a Ph.D. from Stanford Business School, an MBA from the American University in Cairo, and a BSEE from Cairo University. He has served as Director of Research for USC Marshall's Institute for Communications Technology Management (CTM) from 2001-2007. He is a seven-time winner of the Society for Information Management's Annual Paper Award. He has recently served as Senior Editor of MIS Quarterly and is on several editorial boards. He teaches in the MBA program and received the Marshall School's Evan C. Thompson Award for Teaching and Learning Innovation. He has served as advisor to the United Nations Development Programme in Egypt, as a Fulbright scholar in Finland, and has been involved in many field projects in Dubai and Denmark.

In 2008, he was inducted as the 45th Fellow of the Association of Information Systems for his research contributions. He received both the USC-wide and Marshall Faculty Mentoring & Leadership Award in 2021.
