Said Business School
Nigel specialises in leadership development within the professional service sector. This includes future legal career paths, embedding executive coaching in organisations, and the development of degree programmes.
His research interests include the impact of educational programmes and executive coaching. Nigel enjoys working with leaders to build practical, leadership skills to create lasting change for individuals, that impacts positively for their teams and organisations.
Prior to joining Oxford, Nigel spent 20 years in professional services. Initially he was in a client-facing role at PwC. Latterly, he held Global Director of Learning and Development roles at two global law firms, where he was responsible for designing and implementing talent development strategies, workplace degrees, executive programmes and coaching. He also led the creation of the first ‘Innovation Hub’ in a global law firm - a client-facing collaboration space, helping the firm to evolve its services.
Nigel co-chaired the Legal Education Training Group, where he conducted research, with international business schools, on coaching, leadership development and strategy. He has also held board roles at higher education research institutes and at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
He is a Professor of Professional Practice and Education Innovation at the School of Law, Queen Mary University, London. Formerly, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, where he researched themes including hierarchy, power, group dynamics and cultural change. Nigel has a BA and PhD from London University.
He is part of the faculty contributing to the Oxford Leading Professional Service Firms Programme, delivered online.
