Jones Graduate School of Business

Nancy Sauer teaches Business-Government Relations at the Jones School and has also lectured at Texas A & M University and the University of Texas on government relations, environmental policy and business ethics issues. She operates a government relations consulting practice that provides: political risk assessment, trend analysis, issue management, lobbying, crisis communication, product stewardship and social responsibility services to energy companies and financial institutions. Sauer brings over 25 years of corporate business-government relations experience in the oil, gas, refining, petroleum marketing, pipeline, franchise, consumer products, ranching, mining and financial services industries to the classroom. This experience includes government relations responsibility at three Fortune 300 firms and representation of the nation’s leading motor oil brand (Pennzoil), the nation’s leading fast lube franchisor (Jiffy Lube International), the nation’s largest, privately-held ranch (Vermejo Park Ranch) and the largest life insurance company in Texas (VALIC). During the course of her career, Sauer has created two start-up state government relations groups, led successful national environmental issue coalitions, lobbied at the federal and state levels, managed corporate political action committee strategy, and broke a 100-year monopoly in the higher education retirement savings market. In addition, she led government relations projects for the development of: coal seam gas production in New Mexico, natural gas storage caverns in Colorado and Texas, a $240 million lubricants manufacturing joint venture in Louisiana, brownfields redevelopment projects in California, and a Gulf of Mexico oil port. Sauer has served on the board of directors and executive committee of the Public Affairs Council (Washington, D.C.) and the boards of the Texas Association of Business, Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and Women’s Energy Network. Her research interests include: energy and environmental policy, business ethics and the impact of postmodernism on policy-making.
