Dr. Gambescia uses a systemic and integrative approach to assessment and treatment of sexual and relational problems. This approach is the central theme of all publications (see below). It is called the Intersystem Approach. Using this approach, therapy is tailored to the specific needs of the individual or couple.

Dr.Gambescia maintains an active private practice specializing in relationship and sex therapy. She has over 35 years of clinical and teaching experience in working with couples. Dr Gambescia teaches and supervises psychotherapists in sex and couples therapy. She is a clinical associate and a faculty member at the Center for Couples and Adult Families in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Gambescia has coauthored 8 books: Erectile Dysfunction, Hypoactive Sexual Desire, Treating Infidelity, Systemic Sex Therapy, 1st, 2nd 3rd, an editions, A Clinician's Guide to Systemic Sex Therapy,2nd & 3rd editions, and several journal articles and book chapters which focus on relationship and sexual issues. She completed her clinical training at the Council for Relationships (formerly Marriage Council of Philadelphia) and her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania (1983).
