Mylene Lagarde

Mylene Lagarde is Associate Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Policy. Having trained as an economist in France, Mylene's interest in health in low-income settings was triggered by the two-year experience she had in Cameroon as a health financing advisor in the Ministry of Health (2003-2004). Soon after, she joined the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to start her academic career as a Research Fellow in Health Economics. She joined the LSE in September 2016.

In her research, Mylene uses applied economic analysis and a range of empirical methods to understand the drivers of individual decisions made by patients as well as providers, with a view to inform current health policy debates in low- and middle income countries. She is particularly interested in exploring the determinants of providers’ performance and the demand for healthcare services.
