Michele Russell

I am the Joint Director of Education at UCL's Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Our aim is twofold: to provide the best possible education and development for the NHS clinical staff to ensure the highest quality delivery of patient care and to be recognised as the Global Leader in Vision and Eye Health Education by embedding the world-class research of the IoO into the curriculum which is taught by leading clinicians and scientists. I also lead at UCL Higher Education more broadly, particularly focussing at the moment on the UCL Education Strategy, flexible and online learning/ apprenticeships and multi-disciplinary undergraduate degree programmes. Research is focused on developing sustainable patient diagnostic provision for a range of eye conditions as part of the COVID 19 recovery Project HERCULES which I lead on the education research and development aspect of the programme.

In addition to my role at UCL, I work as a Chief Academic Advisor to the Defence Medical Academy and the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom where I was the former Provost (equiv) and also sit on the COVID 19 Expert Panel for Government.
