Michael is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Accounting at Purdue University, Krannert School of Management. His primary research focuses on the use and pricing of accounting information in capital markets. Specifically, he investigates how accounting based distress risk predictors are anticipated and priced by the market. His research agenda also explores the relationship between financial distress and corporate governance issues in the U.S. and internationally.

Michael currently teaches Advanced Financial Accounting Mgmt 503/590, International Accounting Mgmt 509, M&A Accounting for MBAs Mgmt 690 and also runs the experiential learning class Accounting Consulting for Entrepreneurship Mgmt 590 for MSA students. Before joining Purdue, he served as a Research Associate and Teaching Assistant with the Accounting & Management Unit at Harvard Business School in Boston. He received his doctorate in business administration from the University of Manchester, Alliance Manchester Business School in England and an M.B.A. from Purdue University. He also holds a Certified Public Accountant license in North Dakota and is a member of AICPA and AAA.

Prior to his academic career, Michael has also gained professional and senior management experience in the field of finance, accounting and control. He has worked as CFO with Neurotune AG, a drug development company in Switzerland, and prior to that he was the European Controller Biolife with Baxter Healthcare. Before joining Baxter, he was the Financial Controller with Energis Carrier Services Europe, a wholesale telecom provider, and prior to that he worked as a Senior Public Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Michael started his career with AT&T Corp. where he held numerous finance positions including Senior Corporate Auditor for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region based in London, UK.
