Dr. Michael Fitzsimons is the division chief of cardiac anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his residency, chief residency, and fellowships in cardiac anesthesia and critical care medicine at Mass General. He has served in various leadership roles in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine including the director of the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship, the associate director of the Residency Program for Clinical Base Year Education, the chairperson for the Clinical Competency Committee, and the director of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Prevention.
Dr. Fitzsimons serves as chairperson for the American Society of Anesthesiologists SUD Prevention Advisory Group and the Working Group on Physician Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. His academic interests include drug testing, disabilities among physicians, suicide prevention, and medical education. Dr. Fitzsimons is a veteran of the United States Army.
