Michael Bell

Academic Division: ManagementMichael Bell, Chairman and CEO of inVentiv Health, brings three decades of business management and operational expertise at leading global services companies to the organization. Seamlessly orchestrating inVentiv’s vast development and commercialization capabilities, he’s responsible for identifying operational efficiencies and strategic synergies across inVentiv to help biopharmaceutical clients’ solve their most challenging problems. Prior to his role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, he held the position of inVentiv’s Chief Operating Officer. Bell is an industry veteran who has managed sophisticated global service organizations through every stage of growth. His focus on operational excellence, strategic innovation, and cultivating talent is well regarded in the industry. Prior to joining inVentiv Health, Bell served as Senior Executive Vice President of John Hancock Financial Services, reporting to the Chairman and CEO, doubling the growth rate of the businesses he managed while raising productivity to some of the highest levels in the industry. He also co-founded and helped lead the Monitor Group, where he partnered with companies across the healthcare delivery continuum. Under his leadership, Monitor Group grew rapidly to 1,000 employees and opened 25 offices worldwide. He also has served as a Managing Partner and founder of Monitor Clipper Partners, a private equity firm, where his industry specialties included professional services, procurement outsourcing, and pharmaceutical marketing services. Mr. Bell received his Bachelor’s from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania before attending Harvard Business School for an M.B.A. He serves as the Chairman Emeritus of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and previously served as a trustee and the Chair of Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. Mr. Bell also holds several other leadership positions with not-for-profit organizations.
