Biography

Fordham University

Melissa is a licensed clinical social worker in New York State with a Bachelors in Science in Applied Psychology from New York University and a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Hunter College. Melissa has extensive experience working with individuals, couples and families. Her therapeutic style is active in the conversation, while being supportive and collaborative. Melissa creates a nonjudgmental and dynamic environment that amplifies strengths and examines unhelpful patterns that are no longer serving clients. Melissa believes in building a trusting relationship with her clients in order to recognize and acknowledge their experiences, perspectives and contexts. Together with her clients, Melissa first works to understand unhelpful patterns and then shifts these patterns by creating new ways of coping. Melissa believes in an engaging two-way discussion in individual therapy. In couples therapy, she guides each person to discover and share deeper feelings to allow healing and cultivate a sense of working together. Melissa has a way of seeing multilayered dynamics, how people get caught in roles they want to break free from, and is passionate about creating a space where clients can safely share their experiences in order to reach their full potential.
