Biography

Mayo Fuster Morell is faculty associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University, where she has collaborated with Prof. Yochai Benkler since 2010. In addition, she is the director of Dimmons an action research group on socio economical and gender innovation at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute of the Open University of Catalonia (IN3 UOC, Barcelona), and the director of Barcelona UOC Chair in Digital Economy: For a Platform Economy focused on the people’s welfare and the right to the city, developed jointly by Dimmons IN3 UOC, the Barcelona City Council and Barcelona Activa (Economic Promotion Public Agency).

She is expert on commons based peer production, and feminist economics. In 2010, she concluded her PhD thesis at the European University Institute in Florence on the governance of digital commons. She is the principal investigator at UOC for the European projects DECODE Building the next generation of cooperative data platforms for digital sovereignty, where she develop a multidisciplinary framework for sharing economy; and PLUS on Platform Labour in Urban Spaces: Fairness, Welfare, and Development, where she analyses alternative models of collaborative economy. She was the Principal Investigator for IGOPnet.cc of P2Pvalue on the conditions that favor value creation in collaborative production and decentralized infrastructures.

She is an expert and an active promoter of innovative public policies. She is responsible of the experts group BarCola on collaborative economy and commons production at the Barcelona City Council, and is the co organizers of Procomuns: A Barcelona local forum for the cocreation of public policies for a commons oriented collaborative economy, and the international Cities Sharing Cities Action program and Declaration, involving 75 cities collaboration worldwide.

She has leaded the creation of ¨Matchimpulsa¨ a transversally feminist programme to foster the digital platformization of Social and Solidarity Economy and sharing economy in the city of Barcelona. Matchimpulsa involves 150 companies in the Barcelona ecosystem.

She has also developed extended research on social movements (Global Justice Movement, Free Culture Movement and mobilization wave of "indignated"/15M in Spain).

She specializes in mission oriented and action-participation research.

She lives with her little daughter Abril in Barcelona, and is actively involved in Abril’s school to support new pedagogues of equality and diversity in education.
