Haskayne School of Business

Recognized for her strategic planning, communication, collaboration and leadership skills, Mary Axworthy is an urban planner and former municipal government executive with expertise in city-wide and neighbourhood planning, public participation and project management.

While Director of Land Use Planning & Policy, City of Calgary, Mary played a key leadership role in “Plan It Calgary”, a blueprint for smart, sustainable growth that generated Calgary’s award winning 2010 Municipal Development and Transportation plans.

Mary has a demonstrated track record of involving the public and stakeholders in decisions that affect them. She welcomes opportunities to integrate her in-depth knowledge of urban planning, municipal government and regulatory processes with credible and effective approaches to public engagement.

Mary has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Design (Urbanism) from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Political Science from the University of Winnipeg. She is a Member of the Alberta Professional Planning Institute (RPP), and is a former Member of the Alberta Municipal Government Board (MGB). She is an instructor in the Real Estate Development Institute (REDI) program through the Faculty of Continuing Education at the University of Calgary
