Martyn McLachlan

He joined the Department of Materials in late 2004 as a postdoctoral researcher, working on an industrially funded project led by Professor David McComb and sponsored by Royal Dutch Shell. In 2007, he was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship and later appointed as a Lecturer in 2013. Subsequently, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2015, Reader in 2017, and finally achieved the position of full Professor in 2020.

Throughout his tenure at Imperial, he has taken on various additional roles within the Department of Materials and across the College. These include serving as the course Director for the Advanced Materials Science and Engineering MSc program and as the Director of Undergraduate Studies. He also held the position of College Warden for nearly a decade and recently joined the Faculty of Engineering Team as the Deputy Faculty Senior Tutor. He is affiliated with the Centre for Doctoral Training in Plastic Electronic Materials (PE-CDT) and actively collaborates with the Centre for Processable Electronics (CPE) at Imperial.

In 2021, he succeeded Professor Stephen Skinner as the Imperial Director of the Centre for Doctoral Training in the Advanced Characterisation of Materials (CDT-ACM). This center is a collaborative initiative between Imperial College, University College London, and Trinity College Dublin.
