Martin is an expert in basin and petroleum systems analysis and modelling, play assessment and resource estimation. Prior to joining Ucon4D, he worked for 10 years as a geologist with Schlumberger, where he was involved in the development of Petrel and PetroMod software, also performing numerous training sessions and case studies.

Martin holds a PhD from RWTH Aachen University ("Structural restoration and basin and petroleum systems modelling") and is Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London. At Imperial, Martin is involved in the onshore UK shale resource assessment multi-year project, co-supervises PhD and MSc projects and teaches BPSM at the Petroleum Geosciences MSc. He also contributes to various MSc modules at other universities (University of Montpellier, University of Namibia).
