Biography
Sloan School of Management
Martin Mocker is a Research Affiliate of the MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research (CISR). Martin previously worked at MIT CISR for several years as a Research Scientist.
Primarily, Martin is a professor of information systems at ESB Business School, Reutlingen University, Germany. His teaching and research focus on the digital transformations of big, old companies aiming to stay competitive in an increasingly digital economy. His research areas include enterprise and business architecture, digital platforms, and business complexity.
Martin has held faculty positions at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands, and at Hult International Business School in London, UK. Before joining academia, Martin worked with senior executives on strategic IT challenges as an engagement manager and consultant at McKinsey & Company.
Martin has been invited as a keynote speaker and moderator of panels and workshops on digital transformation, business complexity, and strategic IT management at numerous events including Microsoft’s Global CIO Summit, IBM’s Pulse Executive Summit, the Handelsblatt Annual IT Conference, and the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium.
Martin’s award-winning research has been published in leading academic and management journals including Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Management Information Systems Quarterly, and the European Journal of Information Systems. He is also a senior editor for MIS Quarterly Executive, as well as a member of the editorial board for The Journal of Strategic Information Systems.
Together with Jeanne W. Ross and Cynthia M. Beath, Martin has co-authored the book Designed for Digital: How to Architect Your Business for Sustained Success.
Martin holds a doctoral degree from the University of Muenster and a degree in computer science from the University of Dortmund, Germany.
