Weatherhead School of Management

Mark Taylor, PhD, CPA, is the Andrew D. Braden Professor of Accounting and Auditing. As chair and professor of accountancy, Taylor teaches in the corporate governance and auditing assurance areas.

Taylor is currently past president of the Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA), having assumed the office in August 2014 after stepping down from serving as president. He has also served on the Auditing Section Executive Committee. Taylor completed a three-year term of service on the Senior Technical Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Auditing Standards Board in January 2012. As an academic fellow, he fulfilled a one-year term in the Professional Practice Group of the Office of the Chief Accountant at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC from 2005-2006.

Taylor is the audit committee chair and independent trustee on three investment company trusts that have combined assets under management of over $15 billion. He maintains close ties with leaders in the public accounting profession and has had his research sponsored by the Center for Audit Quality twice in the last three years.

Many of Taylor’s numerous published articles are related to audit practice and have appeared in leading academic and professional journals, including CONTEMPORARY ACCOUNTING RESEARCH, ACCOUNTING ORGANIZATIONS AND SOCIETY, AUDITING: A JOURNAL OF PRACTICE AND THEORY, ACCOUNTING HORIZONS, BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH IN ACCOUNTING, JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTANCY, THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTING RESEARCH, JOURNAL OF FORENSIC ACCOUNTING, and the JOURNAL OF ACCOUNTANCY, among others.

Taylor received his PhD from the Eller School of Business at the University of Arizona and his MAcc from Brigham Young University, Marriott School of Management. He was initially appointed to Case Western Reserve University in 2009.

Outside of the classroom, Taylor is an active runner, cyclist and instrument-rated private pilot.
