Biography

Mark Norrell has more than 25 years of experience as a healthcare management professional. A member of SPEA faculty since 2012, Norrell specializes in healthcare operations, strategic planning, and business development. His teaching focuses on the unique function of the American healthcare system and its middle ground between the charitable, not-for-profit mission and entrepreneurism.

Prior to coming to Bloomington, Norrell was executive vice president and chief operating officer for Hutchinson Hospital Corporation, a not-for-profit community hospital in central Kansas. Norrell served as director of strategic planning and business development for South Miami Health System in Florida, responsible for legislative and regulatory affairs and competitive positioning. Following Hurricane Andrew in South Florida in 1992, Norrell served as vice president of Bannock Regional Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, where he guided strategic development, competitive positioning, and operations.

Norrell''s civic involvements include serving as board president for United Way of Southeastern Idaho, and on governing boards of community leadership programs in Idaho and Kansas. He currently serves as the chair on the Board of Health of Monroe County, Indiana. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a licensed nursing home administrator.
