Maria Panagioti

Biography

I graduated from the University of Crete (Greece) in 2005 with a first class honours in Psychology.  After being awarded an EU studentship in 2006, I undertook my Masters in Clinical Psychology (first class honours) at Leiden University, in the Netherlands. In September 2008, I was awarded a doctoral fellowship by the most prestigious national research funding Institute of Greece (IKY) https://www.iky.gr/en/ . This fellowship enabled me to pursue a PhD in Psychology at the University of Manchester. After the completion of my PhD in January 2012, I was awarded an EU prize for exceptional PhD outputs as my PhD led to 11 first authored peer-reviewed publications and over 200 citations. 

I joinced the Centre for Primary Care as Research Associate in June 2012, I was promoted to Research Fellow in February 2015 and to Senior Research Fellow in June 2017. My core research interests are:

• Understanding and preventing burnout and psychological distress in healthcare professionals in primary care  
• Improving the quality and safety of primary care
• Optimising and personalizing service delivery and low-intensity interventions for common mental health problems in primary care
• Improving self-management support models for people with multimorbidity
• Suicide prevention

I am supervising 1 PhD student and 3 MPhil students 

I am running a quarterly 1-day practical workshop on systematic reviews and meta-analyses for staff and students within the Faculty and I teach as part of the Evidence-based Practice module of the Masters of Public Health.
