Marcel Pheijffer (1967) is Professor of Accountancy at Nyenrode Business Universiteit and Professor of Forensic Accountancy at Universiteit Leiden. From May 2003 until February 2008 he was director of NIVRA-Nyenrode School of Accountancy & Controlling. His main topics of interest include: forensic accounting, fraud, money laundering, creative accounting & fraudulent reporting, ethics & integrity, corporate governance and public oversight.
From January 2006 until January 2009 he was a member of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), one of the bodies of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
In 2002/2003 he was the secretary of the Parliamentary Inquiry commission on fraud in the Building & Construction Industry. Since September 2000, he has been a professor at Nyenrode and Universiteit Leiden.
Marcel has been appointed as an expert witness for Dutch Courts several times.
Marcel studied Accountancy at NIVRA-Nyenrode and Criminal Law at Universiteit Leiden. He was awarded a PhD-degree at the Law Faculty of Universiteit Leiden. Marcel worked for the tax authorities (Ministry of Finance) for some 18 years. Within the so-called Fiscal Investigation and Information Service (FIOD) he worked as a forensic accountant investigator in the field of fraud, organized crime and money laundering. He was also advisor at the Ministry of Finance on the subject of money laundering and integrity issues.
