Prakash HANDE is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. From July 2021, he is appointed as Assistant Dean, Safety and Research Facilities Management, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS Medicine. He has published more than 160 peer-reviewed research articles with ~12000 citations in international journals such as Nature Genetics, Cell, Science, Genes and Development and PNAS etc. (Scopus H-index: 53). His research interests are: biomarkers of radiation exposure, telomeres and telomerase in ageing and cancer, experimental cancer therapeutics and environmental toxicology. Dr Hande is one of the pioneers who identified the role of DNA repair factors in telomere regulation in mammalian systems and is an expert in Radiation Biodosimetry. Dr Hande teaches cancer biology and ageing for life sciences students and he teaches senior seminars such as Biomedicine and Singapore Society and Radiation and Society in Tembusu College. He holds adjunct professor appointments at the Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, India and Mangalore University, Mangalore, India and a visiting faculty at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, India. Dr. Hande is a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, Chiba, Japan. He is the founding editor-in-chief of Genome Integrity, an online journal. He is an associate editor of Frontiers in Genetics as well as the editorial board member of Mutation Research – Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis. He was a consultant to the Division of Human Health, International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria in 2015 -2016 during his sabbatical leave from NUS. Dr Hande was an expert member of the workgroup on “Biological mechanisms influencing health effects from low-dose radiation exposure” with United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) from Jan 2017 to June 2021. Dr Hande is a member of Committee 1, International Commission on Radiological Protection from July 01, 2021.
