Professor Louise Fitzgerald is Visiting Professor, (Organisational Change) at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford & Emeritus Professor, De Montfort University, Leicester. She has a PhD; B.A. (Econ.) Hons.; and Dip. in Personnel Management.
Louise has previously held management posts in the private sector, working in HRM and organisation development. And subsequently, she has held academic university posts at Warwick, City, De Montfort and Manchester universities.
Throughout her academic career, Louise has maintained a core focus on applied research and on the impact of academic work on practice and policy. She was a member of the pioneering Centre for Corporate Strategy and Change under the leadership of Professor Andrew Pettigrew. This was one of the earliest research centres to engage with a consortium of supporting firms.
From 2008-2015, she has been a member of the Implementation Strategy Group of the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE). This group guides the NICE strategy on the implementation of all clinical guidelines in the U.K.
Her work with the Greater Manchester Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) on the prevention of diabetes was recognised through awards as the winner of the Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Award and as a finalist in the Health Services Journal (Care integration) award.
Her writing has received international recognition through prizes at the Academy of Management in the USA for the best article published in the Academy of Management Journal (2006) and nominations for the best international paper or symposium at the AOM conferences (2010; 2009). Our book, ‘Knowledge to Action’ published by Oxford University Press was shortlisted for an award by the journal Sociology of Health and Illness. She is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Throughout her career, Louise has developed a range of expertise in organisational change and organisational development. This expertise ranges across an extensive and productive research portfolio, experience and expertise as a consultant and also managerial experience in the management of change projects. Progressively, she has developed highly specialised experience in organisational change in professionalised organisations, and she has substantial knowledge of the U.K. and international health care sectors.
