Biography

Lily Kim brings nearly 20 years of experience in all realms of media as a journalist, public relations specialist and company spokesperson. She started her journalism career at KBC-TV Chicago as an anchor and reporter covering local Asian Am​erican community news. She then co-founded Ascene Chicago in 2010, an online news magazine that showcases the city’s Asian scene, which is also now an integrated marketing media public relations agency. In 2014, Ascene Not-For-Profit was created to host events for the Asian American community of Chicago. Kim serves as the president.

During the summer of 2017, Kim acted as the chairperson for the inaugural Taste of Korea Chicago Festival. The event was an enormous success and will continue to be an annual event. In 2018, the festival will celebrate and honor Korean War Veterans and their survivors for the 65th anniversary to the Armistice of the Korean conflict.

Kim has also worked on multiple city and county-wide political campaigns. She served as a public information specialist at the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. She also served as an associate with PR Agency O’Malley Hansen Communications and as an associate community manager at Golin, where she helped oversee the execution of the “Our Food, Your Questions” and “Lovin” marketing campaigns on behalf of the McDonald’s corporation.

After receiving a master's degree in public relations and advertising at DePaul University, Kim started as an adjunct professor at the Driehaus College of Business, teaching effective business communications. She received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Columbia College Chicago. Kim is a Chicago native, born and raised.
