Biography

Harris School of Public Policy

Academy Professor and Director, Modern War Institute, United States Military Academy Colonel Liam Collins is the director of the Modern War Institute at the United States Military Academy and the former director of the Combating Terrorism Center. A career Special Forces officer, he has served in a variety of special operations assignments and conducted multiple combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as operational deployments to Bosnia, Africa, and South America. Collins has taught a wide range of courses on substantive security topics, research methods, and leadership. He received his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the United States Military Academy and his master in public affairs degree and PhD from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Collins is an elected life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
