The Robert H. Smith School of Business

Dr. Lawrence A. Gordon is an internationally known scholar in the area of managerial accounting. His work focuses on such issues as performance measures, economic aspects of information security, cost management systems, the interface between managerial accounting and information technology, and capital investments. Dr. Gordon is considered to be one of the pioneers on the emerging field of cybersecurity economics. He is the author of more than 100 articles published in such places as The Accounting Review, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, ACM Transactions on Information and System Security, Journal of Computer Security, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Accounting, Organizations and Society, MIS Quarterly, and Communications of the ACM, and is the co-author of the Gordon-Loeb Model for cybersecurity investments. He is also the author of several books, including Managing Cybersecurity Resources: A Cost-Benefit Analysis, and Managerial Accounting: Concepts and Empirical Evidence. In two comprehensive studies, Gordon was cited as one of the world's most influential/productive accounting researchers. In addition, he was the Editor-in-Chief (2002-2018) and Co-Editor (1982-2001) of the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. An award-winning teacher, Professor Gordon has been an invited speaker at numerous universities around the world. In addition, he has served as a consultant to several private and public organizations.
